Mahalo Lee Tonouchi at Frolic Hawaii for reviewing our Harders Green River Slurpee flavor, now available at all Hawaii 7-11 Stores. We are thrilled at the response we are getting on the Green River Slurpee. We would also like to give a big Mahalo to Rowan Ching, a Hawaii artist, for designing the face plate graphic. One of our goals is to help showcase the amazing artwork of talented local artist. With 7-Eleven's 60+ stores state wide, this allows local artists a unique platform to showcase their artwork. With more flavors on the horizon, we are excited to team up with more artists!
FROLIC STORY -
We would like to extend a BIG MAHALO to Lee Tonouchi at Frolic Hawaii for reviewing our Harders Lychee Slurpee flavor that we recently introduced to the Hawaii 7-11 Stores. Lee's colorful review about his and his father's search for a frozen lychee treat is the type of story that inspires us to continually innovate new and locally inspired flavors for our community. Harders Humble Roots
The Harders brand of syrups and flavorings began in 1933 as a simple operation with a simple idea; produce high-quality syrups and flavorings using great ingredients. More and more people in the community began using Harders syrups and flavorings to make their favorite local treats like Guri-Guri and Strawberry Li-hing Popsicles. As the popularity of shave ice grew in Hawaii, so did the Harders brand. Local mom and pop shave ice stores and restaurants looked to Harders to deliver that “home made” taste that they knew and loved. Restaurants like Zippys and McDonalds looked to Harders to create iconic fountain drinks such as Harders Lilikoi, Harders Fruit Punch, and Harders Green River. In 2008, Island Maid acquired the Harders brand and recipes in an effort to carry on the tradition of providing high quality syrups and flavorings to local businesses. There needed to be a refocusing of the Harders brand's core values and direction. This was done by enhancing the Harders line of products by using real fruit, fruit oils, and fruit essences in more of their syrups and flavorings. Starting in 2018, The "Harders Hawaii" line will feature a new refreshed logo design, further enhancing and refocusing of its core values and vision. Today the Harders brand is stronger than ever and continues to be a sought after and cherished brand for local families and businesses.
The topic of what is the best kind of sugar is one of the most sensitive debates in today's progressively health-conscious world. Both Island Maid / Harders Hawaii understands this and works extremely hard to ensure that we only use the best type of sweetener on the market. We achieve this by using only natural cane sugar in all of its Harders Premium Syrups. We feel it is important that our customers are aware of the benefits of using products made out of 100% natural cane sugar compared to products made out of high fructose corn syrup and or artificial sweeteners.
High fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners, like aspartame, are one of the worst sweeteners you can put into your body. Unlike natural cane sugar, high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners are highly processed sugars. The higher the number of times a product is processed, the higher the likeliness the product will lose its essential nutrients. On the other hand, natural cane sugar is less processed as compared to high fructose corn syrups and aspartame; and therefore retains much more of its essential nutrients. We believe that out of the many types of sugars and sweeteners out there, natural cane sugar is the best, most natural form of sweetener we can use at this time. Of course as with anything, moderation is key.
